Black People and Heavy Metal Music

The complex issue of black people liking heavy metal music never ceases. It is social, cultural, and a starter of controversy. The discussion of this may appear rhetorical, but it should be treated as bluntly as possible. As a black female into this genre, it is nearly impossible to proceed without considering this issue. From checking the backgrounds and beliefs of bands to disregarding them when they present racist sentiments, it remains prominent. It is also possible to conflict with other people (not on the scene) who dismiss metal for the simple reason that it is metal. After watching some videos on YouTube recently,  I discovered a number of minority metal fans who had made videos about their experiences. They had received comments like, "why are you listening to that devil music?" and  "that's white folks' music."

While personal situations and experiences vary, I believe that it's safe to assume that these problems become irritating after repeatedly hearing them. I also believe it's okay to state that they are rooted in two subjects: People tend to reject what is foreign to them, and there still aren't many blacks into metal (performing or appreciating).

After becoming motivated by the videos, I decided to actually create one. It's mission was to support similar concerns, but it also expresses motives for conflict and gives reasons to have more respect in the metal community. I don't want to be a character cop or a creator of a false unity utopia, but these issues are more likely to diminish when people have a little more courtesy toward others. Please watch.
